  • First Conjured: 2019, in a dedicated Moon Drop event
  • Inspiration: Discovering a remarkable incarnation of carmine, a foundational pigment in our process

Inspiration in Deep, Inky Purple

Before Rituel de Fille existed, our inspiration began with a single pigment. In our home of Los Angeles, this historic pigment scatters wild across our landscapes. Often mistaken for a beetle, the cochineal is actually a tiny scale insect; a parasite that thrives nestled beneath delicate, cotton-like white fluff on the pads of wild prickly pear cactuses. Our fascination with this uniquely beautiful pigment sparked the far-reaching curiosity that became the foundation of our brand.

Carmine offers an extraordinary spectrum of color, ranging from vibrant reds to deep magentas, all with an unmatched depth and richness. When we discovered a remarkable incarnation of this pigment—a deep, utterly remarkable purple hue—we knew we had to create a new lip color to fully encapsulate its magic. The result is Darkest Deeds, an impossibly vibrant, stunningly rich inky purple that pays homage to our founding roots.

The Unique Magic of Carmine

While sometimes misunderstood or hidden away in modern cosmetics, carmine is an ancient, irreplaceable treasure. The insects live out nearly their entire natural lifespan, allowing carminic acid to fully mature. They are then naturally sun-dried and meticulously milled.

Because of its rarity and this intensive, centuries-old harvesting process, carmine is a true luxury. It yields a breathtaking complexity and vibrancy that simply cannot be replicated by the synthetic, petroleum-based colorants used in most modern cosmetics. Early modern production of carmine was sparked in Peru as an effort to stimulate the economy with traditional natural resources, with cochineal bringing farmers similar rates as coca and therefore offering a viable alternative. The areas where cochineal is harvested supports local economies and education, and those areas are scattered across Peru to ensure sustained growth.

The Forbidden Lipstick Formula

An intensely saturated, rich and luxuriant lipstick carefully crafted to reveal bold, daring color and impart enduring moisture. This formulation offers a beautifully dense, opaque finish that remains deeply comfortable on the lips.

How to Wear

  • For a bold, saturated finish: Apply Darkest Deeds directly from the bullet, using the edge to sharply define the lip line for maximum, dramatic impact.

    Matte Hemlock

Very similar color to the limited release Hemlock, but more matte. Easier to layer but a little drying. I recommend pairing with a gloss

    Perfect Purple Black

Lovely deep purple black color. I like the color and pigment pay off for this formula especially, since the color doesn't seem sheer or too light. It has a matte finish which I think suits a color this dark.

    Blackened purple 💜🖤

I loooove this color! In the photo, I'm in bright sunlight and wearing a little bit of gloss, so it looks lighter. It gives a nice goth vibe that freaks out ignorant people
